Based on the novel Peace Like a River the sophomores read, we took lines from the novel and turned those into a poem.  This is Rachel Redding’s.

The chicken waltzed in,
Fearful and skittish,
Like the good little prey animal he was.

Third offense,
How many times
does the dog have to bite before he’s put down?

Just growling,
Protecting their territory,
Baring their teeth,
No harm done.

After some useless clucking,
The sorry excuse for animal control left.
He was no good to us.
