Serving homeschool families in Whatcom County.
The purpose of education is to prepare people for whatever God may ask them to do.
We want to prayerfully and joyfully help you fulfill the plans God has for you, using the best customer service possible. What do you need? How can we help you? Please tell us what YOU need. We have an expanding bag of resources.
CHRISTIAN, BIBLICALLY BASED
Eph 4:11-13: “It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”
ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL.
The problem with many educational settings and most public schools is that they are one-size-fits-all, based on the industrial manufacturing, conveyor belt model of doing business. They should be based on the customer service model. What do you need? How can we help you? ZLO works with students from remedial to gifted, placing them according to their skill level rather than their age. We can offer different paths through the same curriculum so that students can learn at a pace that is appropriate for them.
We are not very interested in meeting standards such as No Child Left Behind or Common Core. These are the engines of conveyor belt education. Instead, we see the opportunity to work with a child as a privilege. We honor the child that God has made by evaluating them for the knowledge they have and placing them appropriately, without the fear of being measured against a standard that may be impossible, or one that changes every few years. We honor the parent’s position in directing their child’s education by working with parents to find the instruction that best fits the student.
HOW DO WE DO IT?
Zacchaeus Learning Opportunities could be described in a number of ways.
1. ZLO consists of educators, parents, and accomplished specialists who support home schooling. Our instructors teach from a Christian, Biblically based point of view, and are striving to provide students with an academic preparation for any educational goal.
2. ZLO offers small classes once- and twice-weekly during the school year. When we are able and there is interest, we can also offer short courses, special interest workshops and private tutoring. Academic year courses are at least equivalent to those taught in full-time schools. Class time is used more efficiently, classes are small, providing more instructor attention, and course work is better tailored to student need.
3. ZLO offers homeschooling parents quality education with choices and flexibility, allowing them to remain in a homeschool setting. Parents are the directors of their child’s education, choosing courses, instructors, and times. This ensures a high quality of instruction.
